A coastal cargo ship built and operated by our company has been awarded the Coastal Ship Category at the Ship of the Year 2023 awards, sponsored by the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers.

Taking into account the characteristics of coastal cargo ships, which emit CO₂ in all modes of operation—such as navigation, docking and undocking, cargo handling, and berthing—this ship was built as an "integrated energy-saving ship" by combining energy-saving technologies tailored to each mode.

Furthermore, in response to the worsening crew shortage, we have focused on improving the working environment and optimized the onboard facilities and working environment.

In terms of design, we made maximum use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology to reduce hull resistance and improve propulsion efficiency. The installation of large-capacity batteries, which are primarily used when berthed, also reduces environmental impact and improves noise reduction.

These comprehensive initiatives have earned the ship high praise as a next-generation coastal cargo ship that is both environmentally and crew-friendly, leading to this award.

Through the operation of this vessel, NYK will lead the spread of energy-efficient coastal vessels and technological innovation, contributing to the future of sustainable maritime transport.
